Are you looking for your Soul Mate? Guess What It Is An Inside Job!

Are you looking for your SoulMate, that Divine Companion and Lover that completes you?

In his allegory,” The Symposium, Plato has Aristophanes present a story about soulmates. Aristophanes states that humans originally had four arms, four legs, and a single head made of two faces. He continues that there were three genders: man, woman and the "Androgynous", each with two sets of genitalia with the Androgynous having both male and female genitalia. The men were children of the sun, the women were children of the earth and the Androgynous were children of the moon, which was born of the sun and earth. It is said that humans had great strength at the time and threatened to conquer the gods. The gods were then faced with the prospect of destroying the humans with lightning as they had done with the Titans but then they would lose the tributes given to the gods by humans. Zeus developed a creative solution by splitting humans in half as punishment for humanity's pride and doubling the number of humans who would give tribute to the gods. These split humans were in utter misery to the point where they would not eat and would perish so Apollo had sewn them up and reconstituted their bodies with the navel being the only remnant harkening back to their original form. Each human would then only have one set of genitalia and would forever long for his/her other half; the other half of his/her soul. It is said that when the two find each other, there is an unspoken understanding of one another, that they feel unified and would lie with each other in unity and would know no greater joy than that.”[3]

I first heard about the ancient Greek story of why we all are searching for our Soul mates in my Greek Mythology 101 class in undergraduate school. The professor explained that from Plato’s dialogue this is why all are seeking another person, someone externally to make a us whole again. We are searching for our other half. Our society and media convinces us it is another person. At the age of eighteen, it made a lot of sense. As I was romantically searching for my knight  in shining armor, the “One.”

I do know as woman, we are conditioned from movies and love songs to believe that our Soulmate is the classic, “knight in shining armor.” He will swoop us up and he will rescue from this scary postmodern world. Although, if you look around at the state of our relationships, many are very toxic and produce even more misery. As many us thought (me included) we found our perfect knight and then soon after that found out he was a tormented soul. That then transformed into our tormentor. The person we thought was our other half was not the one.  To underline that, statistics have found that in American one in four women will experience severe violence by an intimate partner in their lifetimes. I don't believe that your true Soulmate would torture  you. As well as about 40% to 50% of married couples in the United States divorce, according to the American Psychological Association. The divorce rate among those who remarry is even higher. This finding your true Soulmate, your other half is not an easy task. But we all keep on searching.

I would like to offer you a new perspective and who I found out it really is your SoulMate, thru the lens of Harmonia. The Harmonia practice that I created is an Epic Self Care practice that brings balance, harmony, unconditional Love, embodied spirituality, and wholeness in your Being. It comes from my life long journey of healing and seeking higher states of consciousness.

Today on my 10,000 steps of gratitude ocean meditation, I downloaded a knowing about who really is our Soulmate. While walking and connecting my breath with Mother Nature, Plato’s allegory came into my consciousness. I thought about the myth as a metaphor. If at one point, we as humans were powerful and whole. In this power--metaphor, we had both the masculine and feminine within us and in this state of being we were stronger than the gods. Then the god Zeus (the patriarchy) wanting to oppress us ripped us apart. At that moment, we as beings become lost and fragmented.  As I was walking on the beach in the zone and felt a complete oneness with Gaia and the Cosmos. Then just like a lightening bolt my intuition said .. "so our other half is not another person, but it is "US" that we need to unify with." My heart and felt huge in this knowing. It is our return to wholeness, that brings back balance and harmony into our inner and outer worlds. We all have masculine and feminine energies within us. When you bring those two fragmented parts of ourselves together, I feel we have found our Soulmate. You are your own Soulmate. You are your eternal Divine Companion and Divine Lover. It is like the energies of Yin and Yang. The inseparable and opposites within us. Carl Jung called this state of being individuation. He said, individuation is a holistic integration of the psyche, the union of anima and animus within. Individuation has a holistic healing effect on the person, both mentally and physically.

I think once we embrace this knowing, that the other half of your Soul is within you. Once embody your wholeness,I know you will find a wonderful partner and lover to share our lives with. (I did) Once we build a beautiful healthy, holistic, and loving relationship with ourselves, I feel we will attract a supportive person in our lives. Through this process, we will manifest a heart centered community to support all of our Soul's journeys.  Where everyone is whole and complete within their Selves. Our relationships with others will amplify our Soul's growth, evolution, and potential. Through this unification of our Soulmate within, we will be empowered to light up every room we walk into. Our vibrations will be higher, we will be walking in the sunshine of unconditional Self Love. We will inspire others to become whole and to radiant brilliant beings, like the Stars they are. Together as we shine and collaborate brightly, we will become Constellations of transformation. This new paradigm of Self Love will be numinous
in unity consciousness, reverence for all of Nature, and benevolence for humanity.

The minute I heard my first love story I started looking for you, not knowing how blind I was. Lovers don’t finally meet somewhere. They’re in each other all along. -Rumi

So contemplate and imagine where is the other half of you?  When did it become fragmented from your Soul? Was it trauma or societal conditioning? Or both? Are you wanting it back in your life?

Welcome Your Soulmate in Your Life.Let’s embody this…

“The discipline of creation, be it to paint, compose, write, is an effort towards wholeness.”
― Madeleine L'Engle

    Muse and Artivist

Lisa Rasmussen MFA is the Founder and Director of the Harmonia Institute. Lisa Rasmussen—artist, educator, curator, life coach, arts and healing practitioner, and art advocate—believes art can change and heal the world.

Lisa is the Co-Founder and Practitioner of Artemis Sacred Journeys. Which women's empowerment retreats to Tinos Greece. Rasmussen also served as Executive Director and Co-Founder of Art 4 All People and AY Atelier Art, an international Center for arts and consciousness in Malibu, CA. She is also Co-Founder/Co-Director of the non-profit, Art is Moving and International Art Break Day, an annual community arts event that has been held in the U.S., India, Mexico, and West Africa.

Rasmussen is an award-winning professional painter, who has been represented in galleries in both San Francisco and Los Angeles. As well as Lisa’s work has been in numerous solo and group exhibits and publications. For her painting is a very visceral, physical, and metaphysical process. Rasmussen’s paintings have been called abstract expressionism, with a spiritual twist. Her paintings reflect her holistic worldview and her deep connection with the natural world. For Rasmussen, art making is a transcendental experience. When she paints, Rasmussen taps into a force greater than herself; a force that creates through her. Each painting is a product of her dance with divinity. Through her process she hopes to invoke in herself and the viewer a deeper connection to the world within and around us through reflection and inspiration. Early on Lisa developed a thirst for travel and distant cultures. A key conceptual element of her artistic process is the study and travel to ancient cultures and sacred sites around the world. Some of her travel adventures include Nepal, Greece, Egypt, Peru, Ireland, and Brazil. She has also lived and taught English in the mountains of South, China, as well as she had studied antiquities, the Art of the Renaissance, and Ceramics in Florence, Italy.

Rasmussen is also known as a pioneering and passionate arts educator. For many years, she has taught art to residents of under-served, at-risk communities. In 2006, she created the Transformative Art Program at a mental health institute in Oakland, CA for emotionally traumatized youth, ages 5-14. Her art therapy program to create public youth art installations and gallery exhibits garnered awards, grants and media attention.

Rasmussen worked as a fine arts consultant at the prestigious Merrill Chase Gallery in Chicago and The Weinstein Gallery in San Francisco. She also managed The Red Door Gallery & Collective, a grassroots art-reach gallery in Oakland, CA. Rasmussen earned her BA in Sculpture and Ceramics and her MFA in Arts and Consciousness from John F. Kennedy University in Berkeley, CA. She earned several academic awards, including Graduate Student of the Year, in 2008, and Alumni of the Year, in 2013.
