How Art Changes Consciousness
By Jacob Devaney

Art can heal us, inspire us, and alter our brain chemistry
With so much talk about the evidence of the positive effects of yoga and meditation, you might be surprised at what scientific research also says about how art effects the brain. Long before modern neuroscience, artists were creating works to inspire people and today complex brain imaging scans can show us just how art changes the physiology of our brains. Contemplation, observing, and taking in beauty all stimulate pleasure centers within the brain while increasing blood flow by up to 10% in the medial orbitofrontal cortex. This can lead to an elevated state of consciousness, wellbeing, and better emotional health.

The blood flow increased for a beautiful painting just as it increases when you look at somebody you love. It tells us art induces a feel good sensation direct to the brain.
– Professor Semir Zeki, chair in neuroaesthetics at University College London
Observing Art Mirror Neurons  are neurons that fire both when a person acts and when the person observes the same action performed by another. This brings us back to a very basic concept in human evolution which involves modeling. When you observe a profound piece of art you are potentially firing the same neurons as the artist did when they created it thus making new neural pathways and stimulating a state of inspiration. This sense of being drawn into a painting is called “embodied cognition”.

Art accesses some of the most advanced processes of human intuitive analysis and expressivity and a key form of aesthetic appreciation is through embodied cognition, the ability to project oneself as an agent in the depicted scene,
– Christopher Tyler, director of the Smith-Kettlewell Brain Imaging Center

This explains why we might feel like we are dreaming when we look at impressionists like Claude Monet, or having an ecstatic vision while looking at a painting by Alex Grey. The ability of art, combined with our own imagination, to transport us to other realms is astounding. Artists have the ability to show us new worlds but we shouldn’t put them on a pedestal because each of us is an artist.

Making art activates the whole brain and can foster integration of emotional, cognitive, and sensory processes.
– Joan French MA NCC LCPC

Creating Art
The act of creating art is also therapeutic which has been the impetus for the art therapy movement. Every one of us lived like artists as children and we have the ability to bring back this powerful form of expression and self-healing if we allow ourselves to. You don’t need to be an expert to enjoy smearing paint on a canvas and letting your pleasure centers light up like a child!

Art therapy, sometimes called expressive art or art psychology, encourages self-discovery and emotional growth. It is a two-part process, involving both the creation of art and the discovery of its meaning.
– Paula Ford-Martin

Modern Visionary Artists are applying the idea that art inspires community, is educational, and has the capacity to elicit spiritual revelations. Painting together in groups and painting live at musical events, these artists are allowing participants in on their creative process. Seeing and understanding that even the finest pieces of art have many moments when the artist isn’t satisfied or needs to paint over something is revealing for each of us on our spiritual journey.

Celebrating how Art changes ConsciousnessArtist Alex Grey has opened Cosm in New York which is being called a Chapel of Sacred Mirrors. Within the Visionary Art Movement is the idea that creativity itself is a path to the divine. This includes creating art, gathering around/celebrating art and creating communities that foster creative expression in all of its forms. Creativity may be one of the greatest things about being human and art can be a great teacher for us on this evolutionary journey.

To awaken and catalyze the spiritual path of each person by providing access to the highest mystic truth through art and creative action.
– Cosm Core Value

We are surrounded by billboards and advertisements which utilize art to persuade us to purchase things that we usually don’t need. There is currently a large movement towards beautifying public places with murals that contain cultural and community relevance. Imagine how we might create a more peaceful, vibrant world by surrounding ourselves with beautiful art…

I’d like to see a world where scientists, politicians, and spiritual practitioners gathered around art to learn and share with each other towards creating a better world. Visual art can heal us, inspire us, and alter our brain chemistry leaving us filled with inspiration and love. We don’t need science to prove this to us but now that it has what are some ways that you will invoke art and creativity for your own spiritual journey?

For me, art is a way of telling your story, expressing your darkest demons, revealing your brightest light, and connecting with something larger than yourself.

Co-Founding Director of Art is Moving and the Harmonia Institute

Here’s a staggering fact – according to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America,  18.1% of United States citizens over the age of 18 suffer from an anxiety disorder.
That’s 40 million people.

I am one of those 40 million. As a hypersensitive young child, I suffered from severe shyness, anxiety, social phobia, and panic attacks. Creating art was my cure. It was a way for me to dive deep into my own inner world. It was a place where I felt safe and could swim in my imagination. Art saved my life. The art making process is a perfect laboratory to express oneself, heal trauma and toxic emotions, and to find a deeper meaning in life.

One of the core reasons I started Art is Moving with Lauren is to share the power of art with the world. We both know that taking an art break daily, if even for only 5 minutes, is a soothing ritual and a tool for positive transformation.

If you need scientific proof there are a zillion studies on the healing power of art. For example, this article Creativity and Recovery: The Mental Health Benefits of Art Therapy states that, Studies also show that creating art stimulates the release of dopamine. This chemical is released when we do something pleasurable, and it basically makes us feel happier. Increased levels of this feel-good neurotransmitter can be very helpful if you are battling anxiety or depression.

Basically, Art is a magical tool that provides a powerful emotional outlet.
It takes just a short amount of time to begin feeling the positive effects of taking an art break. After just 15 minutes of drawing I promise you will feel your mood improve. Check out the article here and the research behind it here.

My life’s mission (and Art is Moving’s mission) is to empower people to create art. Through the art making process one can learn how to dissolve their own limiting beliefs and they can relieve unnecessary suffering.

It can be daunting and a bit scary, but start creating. Try to make something everyday.
Your inner child is yearning to come out and play. Art making is the ultimate self care ritual and it will help you remember who you truly are. Let’s all starting taking an art break to create a happier and healthier world.

Be Inspired Always,
Lisa

Now it’s your turn. Tell us how art saved your life.

Written for my Non-Profit Art Is Moving.

LISA MARIE RASMUSSEN ~ Circa 2000
Lisa Marie Rasmussen was born in Wisconsin and finds her ancestral roots in Scandinavia, Luxembourg, and Ireland.

Lisa remains eternally grateful to her late mother, "Mickey," who cultivated her creativity and imagination, and who immersed her into the world of art. Her mother provided her with unyielding support, encouragement and inspiration. In addition, she taught her daughter to see that we are one with the natural world, a lesson that remains central to Lisa's work.

Lisa's creative process begins with the premise that we are connected to the universe. Through her art, she attempts to portray how the universe "speaks and dances in my eyes and in my soul." Her art is an expression of her core of being and her constant evolution. It taps into archetypal energies and engages the viewer into a surreal landscape of discovery.
Much of Lisa's art has been inspired by dreams. She finds that her dreams take upon new dimensions when she places them on canvas. Her paintings have enabled her to gained layers of "aha's" as well as elicit "aha's" within others.

Her art has also been inspired by transcendental experiences she has had during pilgrimages to sacred places around the globe. Such sites include the temples and mountains of Nepal, the catacombs of Peru, and the rainforest of Costa Rica.

Her vision is to continue to travel to sacred places and to help and guide those who wish to tap into their divine creative spirits. She hopes to inspire others to create and to become a light that helps persons realize our connection to each other, to all creatures and beings, to the universe and to the divine.

Lisa presently resides in the San Francisco Bay Area where she lives with her true loves - Griffen, Maya and Paulo - her cats.

THE GREEN TARA
The Green Tara is a bodhisattva - an enlightened being who refuses to go to nirvana until she enlightens all souls. She is the divine Mother - the mother of all the buddhas. She embraced me on a pilgrimage to the Nepalese mountains.

My journey to those mountains was one of healing. I had come to spread my recently deceased mother's ashes into the sacred landscape. I came with a tour group of 14 people. We hiked through the mountains each day. On the day of the most difficult climb, I fell terribly ill. I thought I was going to die. But I got through it. The next day, I felt rejuvenated. I saw the sun rise, and I embraced the beauty of the morning. I felt like I had died the night before, and that I had been reborn. I knew in my heart that this was the right day to spread my mother's ashes.

After breakfast, we began hiking again. In the afternoon, as we were ascending to a monastery in the mountains, I saw a magnificent river carving its way through the landscape passionately. My eyes were drawn above it. Three hundred feet on a cliff, I saw an image of the Green Tara. I was awestruck by the shooting stars painted above her figure. For a few moments, I felt connected to the eternal. I felt my mother communicating with me, telling me that she would always be with me.

On the evening I heard the shocking news of my mother's death, I stared at the sky hoping for an answer... a reason. Blazing through the Chicago night, I saw a shooting star... 'Mom'? That same evening, my older brother also saw a shooting star in the night, as he tormented over my mother's death. We both were moved to write and express this at her wake.

When I saw the shooting stars above the Green Tara, I knew that I was meant to be there at that moment in time. I felt my mother's love, and the warmth of her embrace. For a few moments, I felt that I was one with the universe, and that I would never be alone.
The stars and the Green Tara embraced me. I was filled with peace and a sense of letting go. I knew this place was where my mother wanted her ashes to be united with the universe.
Afterwards, on a short sabbatical in the Ozarks at my family home, my passion for the Green Tara spewed from my paintbrush and my soul. She has been my guardian from the moment I saw her on the cliff. She embraces the world, and assists all who ask for her guidance. She demonstrates her magic when one is letting go... and bliss transcends.

"A lost coin is found by means of a candle; the deepest truth is found by means of a simple story."
- Anthony De Mello

For the New Year, I declared that I was totally breaking up with Anxiety forever. In March at  Tony Robbins amazing Unleash the Power Within event it would just vanish and be exorcised from my Being as I walked across the fire. I feel better, but that did not quite happen. It is a Way, not a destination! Read more about my tools for healing and transformation below.

Since I was a very young child I have suffered from severe anxiety, social phobia, and panic attacks. Art is my cure and Art has literally saved my life! Art is the most potent alchemy for toxic emotions.  Over the years through my own transformation and healing I have developed a powerful Arts and Healing practice called Harmonia.

To heal we all need to be empowered and embrace that we are Creators!!!
We are Co-Creators and we are the Creatrix!!

I have to say you cannot just get rid of the little monster of Anxiety. For me she comes in cycles. And with each cycle I have developed stronger tools to transform Her and diffuse her faster.  As well as over the years I have befriended Her. For me she developed from being an over sensitive empath living in cruel and volatile world. At Her core she was just trying to protect me.

Here is some things that help me and I teach, as I am aficionado of It

I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become. ~ Carl Jung

Healing and Get to know your Anxiety

  • Mindfully realize that She is a Giant Archetype of Limiting Beliefs! For me Anxiety is one of the Masters of Limited Beliefs and of Separation.
  • Reflect on the other Emotions, old stories, and Limiting beliefs are woven into your Anxiety. You have to peel the onion.  It is all woven together “People are cruel,” Anxiety’, and “I am not good enough.” I have a spectrum of E ~motions that are connected to Anxiety like shame, guilt, sadness, frustration ( I am trying to reach my greatest potential here)  confusion, anger, hypervigilance, dependence on approval, fear not feeling safe, not feeling loveable….on and on.

  • Write on a piece of paper in the center anxiety and then create a map or web of what other Emotions and patterns are tangled up in it.

  • Now that you have id the Emotions and Stories you need to release these trapped emotions from your body. The book the Emotional Code is a good one. Read more about  HERE.
  • Contemplate how powerful Anxiety is?
  • Think about the energy of Anxiety? Also, reflect on when Anxiety first entered your being, what if at the moment in time your taught or you realized that you could channel that vast powerful energy into a positive state. - Come to terms with your childhood wounds.

  • Draw a picture/ a cartoon of what your anxiety looks? What is its color, what do the lines look like? Give it a name.
  • Take a canvas and some acrylic paint ~ get into your anxiety pain body and begin with great physicality painting it out. When you are done step and ask it questions. Write about it.

  • Honor your anxiety and thank her for her work, but now she can retire.

“Turn your demons into art, your shadow into a friend, your fear into fuel, your failures into teachers, your weaknesses into reasons to keep fighting.” ~ Andrea Balt

  • Know that you are not alone. Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the U.S., affecting 40 million adults in the United States age 18 and older, or 18.1% of the population every year.

  • Create Intense Self Love, Self Compassion, and Self Forgiveness Rituals. Become your Best Friend and Your own Cheerleader.
  • Mediate! Connect with Nature & Animals daily!
  • Tap into things larger that yourself, explore the Mystical teachings!
  • Create Art daily! Journal!!
  • Make your home a peaceful Retreat with sacred objects, candles, and flowers.
  • Employ plant medicine/ essential oils!! Have a stockpile of lavender, vetiver, clary sage, sandalwood, and Basil I use doTerra, which is high quality and amazing!!! Diffuse the oils and also apply topically. On the soles of your feet works wonders!! Shop HERE.
  • Employ crystal medicine. Black Tourmaline is a must in all of our lives.
  • Do inner work ~ build a huge and empowered inner world. Clear out your Chakra system daily. A great book on Chakra work is Wheels of Life. Get HERE.
  • Practice Ho'oponopono. Read more HERE.
  • Eat lots of root veggies.
  • Daily ground yourSelf! Earth into the sacred ground.

  • Lastly, consider if your Anxiety story is know longer true? It is like the butterfly still thinks she is a caterpillar syndrome.

Then just get in the high state of Gratitude!!! Be thankful for the gifts your anxiety gave you. How is SHE your greatest teacher? Walk through HER and on the other side she IS Benevolence, Reverence,Verve, and Great Enthusiasm for the Art of Life!! Be very gentle and kind to your AMAZING Self ~ You are ART!! And You Are A Gift!!!

Namaste!! Lisa

Huge Wisdom Here ~ Divine Feminine!

Powerful conversation!!  So many take aways. I really loved the stop labeling yourself concept and stop believing the labels, that are conditioned in us by society. There are just  facets of control and oppression. Love the metaphor of becoming part of the Wolf Pack and love (know) the story about the wolves healing Yellowstone. I walked away from the conversation feeling in my power. For me there is an Artemis rising moment to it. She is the Goddess of our Wild (Non-domesticated Self) and She is an archetype for our deep connection to our instincts, intuition, personal sovereignty, benevolence, reverence, and healing. Which are the Divine Feminine super powers!! And our latent in all of us Humans. Yes, the time is now to create ~ new leadership and to create a better story of alignment with our Divine strength and grace for our future generations and our animal kingdoms, through our truest of Selves. She is rising! Balance and Harmony! I must buy the book!!

Below, Abby Wambach discuss her new book, “Wolfpack,” and argues that we need to harness our personal power if we hope to fight inequality and change the world. She also debunks the myth of Little Red Riding Hood, and explains why everyone wins when you step up and become a leader. Tune in to learn how to stop believing the myth of scarcity, be a bridge-builder in tough conversations, and lead through helping others flourish. See more at MarieForleo.com

DREAM BIG: The Art of Allowing ~ Evocation of Abundant and Euphoric Visions, Manifesting Your Greatest Dreams and Desires Through the Harmonia Practice

3/1/2019

Picture
Manifestation, the Law of Attraction and its processes is mainstream. It clearly is working for many people. With the book the Secret and the Prosperity Gospel, it is woven into our daily life. Many of us know that we can connect with the Law of Attraction and Co-create our worlds. The Vision Board collage method has become the classic and effective tool for manifestation. I want to introduce you to a magical way to upgrade your manifestation powers with the holistic Harmonia Practice. This practice will weave together Self-care, Soul care, and the Law of Attraction. It will clear paths to euphoric visions and clarity of the soul purpose of your intentions.

The Harmonia process activates intention, embodiment, the I Am Presence, the power of your creative thought, empowerment of yourself as a Creator, a Receiver, and Giver.

Key Principal 1: Embrace Your Creatrix

To begin the evocation of the Harmonia process, embrace the knowing and mindset that you came here to create your own experience. Acknowledge in your heart that your thoughts and intentions are powerful tools of transformation. Now, breath into your core and remember that you are a Creator and a Creatrix.

If you have resistance, reflect on at what moment in time you were Art shamed. Brene Brown calls this creativity scars taken from Elizabeth Gilberts, Magic lessons podcast she says, “For the people who really struggle because they don’t think of themselves as creative, there’s a lot of shame around creativity. People don’t think of themselves as creative, they think creativity is self-indulgent. They don’t think it is productive enough. They don’t understand what it means. It was shut down in them as children. For those folks, when I say “unused creativity is not benign”, what I really mean is it metastasizes into resentment, grief, heartbreak. People sit on that creativity or they deny it and it festers. When I started the research on shame, you know, 13 years ago, I found that 85% of the men and women who I interviewed remembered an event in school that was so shaming, it changed how they thought of themselves for the rest of their lives. But wait – this is good – fifty percent of that 85% percent, half of those people: those shame wounds were around creativity. So, fifty percent of those people have art scars. Have creativity scars.”

With courage let that trapped emotion go. Also, reflect on that when you make Art with intention you are building a powerful bridge between your subconscious and conscious minds. Your subconscious communicates through symbol, pictures, archetype’s, and metaphor. Through Harmonia you are also building circuitry between your left and right brain. Your right brain creates in the visual and the left brain creates in verbal. Throughout this practice you are bringing harmony and balance to both sides of your brain and your being. As well as through Harmonia you are also building a bridge between your heart, mind, and soul. Lastly, creating Art actually anchors your visions, dreams, and desires into the Earth plane via form.  Art opens the door to the Universal and the Personal. It aligns you with your Soul purpose. It is gentle reminder of why are you here. It is a beautiful path for transformation, alchemy, and healing.

Key Principal 2: Art As Oracle
Art is your super power and it opens up the doors to your inner worlds. Always remember that the Art that you create is manifestation of your internal being wanting to be seen, be heard, acknowledged, and to be witnessed. Your inner self is your greatest teacher, healer, and guide. Your Muse has great wisdom, when activated and honored. Your Art is also you own Oracle. When you witness your Art, you are building a relationship with it  and it becomes your insightful council. As well as your Art is a portal that connects you with the mysteries and with something larger than yourself.  Art is your intrinsic birth rite and it is your gift to yourself and the world.

Are you ready for epic enchantment?
The Harmonia Practice Manifesting Your Dreams.

Adorn Your Temple

Step 1. Create Sacred Space for Creation and Meditation

Purify Your Intention. Get clear on what you at your core you want and desire through your senses, your Chakra system, intuition, and your body.

Step 2. The power of Essential Oils and Crystal Work. Engaging your senses and subtle energy body.
Connecting within you the gifts and healing powers of Mother Earth.  “
There are many interesting ancient beliefs surrounding these oils. Some say they are the “spirits” of the plants, trees and flowers. Known as the original medicine of our ancestors, they are believed to have spiritual, emotional, mental and physical benefits. Science supports these beliefs. According to the National Institutes of Health, the plant oils send chemical messages to the brain when inhaled or applied to the skin and absorbed into the body.” states Rewireme.com
**Tent your Wild Orange & Clary Sage on your wrists and third eye, breathe in deeply. Grab a Citrine Crystal and Wild Orange, this will enhance your manifesting abundance and prosperity. Clary Sage Essential Oil will support your vision and euphoria. Diffusing the oils will also be magical.

Step 3. The power of Yoga and mindful stretching.
The goal of the Yoga Poses is to drop down fully in your body into your heart and to quiet your inner critic ~ the mind chatter. The Yoga postures prepare you to go deep into your art making process.  All are very basic poses and please do each pose at your own pace. Breathe into each pose to release any blockage.

I found that when I was doing the one Yoga pose, I intuitively shifted into other poses stretching as I feel into my body. Feel very free to make the pose yours. Improvised yoga poses encouraged, move towards what feels good to your body.

Get into your body and breath do three easy yoga poses.
A. Begin by placing your Hands on your Heart/Raise palms straight into the air, pull your palms down to heart and and breath into your heart.
B. Shoulder Shrugs
C. Next Kali Mudra. Breath and “Dwell in the possibility”
D. Namaste pose and then rest your palms on your solar plexus. Breath in deeply.

Purification Rituals Clearing and Unblocking Your Resistance

Step 4. Shedding/Purification Thru Intuitive Writing. Write down 3 things you need to let go of/stories/patterns/habits. For drama after you have let go and identified patterns, you can always tear up this sheet of paper in a radical action.

Step 5. Shadow Breath Work
Tune into the Root Chakra, Sacral Chakra, Solar Plexus Chakra, Heart Chakra, Throat Chakra, Third Eye Chakra, and your Crown Chakra. Breath into each center let go of desire for external validation/judgement and internal judgement. Let go of the Victim (To us) consciousness. Let go of the blocks to manifesting your potential. Let go of stagnation in your creativity, Let go of the illusion of separation. BREATH DEEP AND LET IT GO!  Breath, Bring in, and Embrace you as your inner child. Imagine you have golden wings, extend them out and the wrap them around your being with a big hug. Bring in the Archetype of the Manifestor (By Us) & then bring the Archetype of the Channeler (Through Us) Energies.

Channel the I Am Presence: Building the Connection with Your Higher SELF Through FLOW.

Step 6. Get into the Flow with the number 8
Draw the number 8 automatically, do not let your pen leave the paper. Go slow and fast. Breath in the present I AM moment. Hold your hand inches away from it feel and breath in the energy of Flow.

*** Drawing the number eight automatically leads one into the flow of eternity. As you create the marking of the 8 through your breath into the space in between and with each exhale release any disconnection. Observe your thoughts like the wind and breath into the infinite possibilities. Celebrating the Chi, the Mana, the life force inside the palm of your marking hand, this majestic universe and beyond.

What happened? Do you lose track of time? Did drawing become an automatic process? If so, you just tapped into the flow. How do you feel?

How Does It Feel to Be in the Flow?
By Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi: Flow, The Secret to Happiness. TED TalkThousands of people from every walk of life were interviewed by Dr. Csikszentmihalyi and his team in order to identify the key components of the flow state. These seven points summarize how those interviewed responded that they felt when in the flow state:
  1. You’re completely involved in what you’re doing: you’re completely focused and concentrated.
  2. There’s a sense of ecstasy–of being outside of everyday reality.
  3. There’s a great inner clarity: you know what needs to be done and you get immediate feedback on how well you’re doing.
  4. You know that the activity is doable, that you have the necessary skills to complete the task successfully.
  5. You lose your sense of self and all of your worries and concerns drift away.
  6. You lose track of time and you’re completely focused on the present moment.
  7. There’s an intrinsic motivation—whatever produces flow becomes its own reward.
Interestingly enough, the idea of flow came into being as result of research on happiness. Researchers began asking themselves: “What makes us happy? “As a result of this research psychologists realized that being able to enter the flow state–which is a very enjoyable experience–is a key component of happiness.

Embody Your Dream: Ask the Universe to Support You

*Step 7. Silently ask the Universe to support you. Now write down 3 of your Wildest Dreams.
Choose one and write it the center of your Mandala. Tent the essential oils again breathing in deeply to core.

“Art really has its source in the transcendent, the unmanifest field of pure consciousness, which is the unchanging, immortal field of all possibilities…When the awareness of the artist is in tune with this center of infinite creativity, his piece of art breathes fullness of life, nourishes the creator, the artist, and inspires his admirers with waves of bliss.” -Maharishi Mahesh Yogi

*Step 8. Creation
Then intuitively start creating your mandala with your pastels and or pen.  This can be a short process of 15 minutes or a long one. Ask  your inner and intuitive Self, when it is complete or not.

Afterwards creation gaze gently at your Art as Your Oracle ~ which is Witnessing. Typically, I set my new creation about three feet from me for more expansive vantage point and then I light a candle to my new Art.

Next ~ LET YOUR ART SPEAK TO YOU. Simply quiet your mind and talk with the Mandala your created.  Write for at least five minutes of about your new baby (creation.) Is there any new information about your Dream and its manifestation?

*Step 9: Reflection ~ How Your Art is a Mirror for Inner Reflection and Knowing
Reflect on these questions: How does your Art become a bridge between your subconsciousness and consciousness? Breathe in the Manifestor (By Us)  and the Channeler (Through Us) as one, then deeply breathe in Unity Consciousness (As us) ~ union of opposites. How does their integration bring you closer to Heaven on Earth? How does my Art anchor my dreams and desire into to form? How can I use my Art as a talisman to supercharge my dreams and desires.

*Step 10: Gratitude Rituals
Write three things you have received from your Manifest your Dreams Mandala? Place your Mandala in sacred place and spend time with it every day. And see your dreams come true!

Ongoing Final Steps:
Do the Work, create a smart action plan toward your goals. ...
Trust the process. ...
Receive, revere, and acknowledge what you get. ...
Keep Your Vibration High
Continue to build a relationship with your Art. Your Mandala is manifested and embedded with your dream, just like a golden talisman it is empowered with the Law of Attraction. As well as continue to cultivate your daily gratitude practice, to honor the amazing gifts that have come your way. Also, when your dreams manifest co-create a huge celebration with the Universe and give something  back to HER. I love to do a Terma. Which is a Tibetan ritual for giving back to Gaia.  Once my dream is realized, I take a intentional and meditative walk in Nature. I bring with me a crystal to give back to Mother Earth. When I feel ready and full of reverence I will give thanks to HER and bury the crystal in the ground.

    Muse and Artivist

Lisa Rasmussen MFA is the Founder and Director of the Harmonia Institute. Lisa Rasmussen—artist, educator, curator, life coach, arts and healing practitioner, and art advocate—believes art can change and heal the world.

Lisa is the Co-Founder and Practitioner of Artemis Sacred Journeys. Which women's empowerment retreats to Tinos Greece. Rasmussen also served as Executive Director and Co-Founder of Art 4 All People and AY Atelier Art, an international Center for arts and consciousness in Malibu, CA. She is also Co-Founder/Co-Director of the non-profit, Art is Moving and International Art Break Day, an annual community arts event that has been held in the U.S., India, Mexico, and West Africa.

Rasmussen is an award-winning professional painter, who has been represented in galleries in both San Francisco and Los Angeles. As well as Lisa’s work has been in numerous solo and group exhibits and publications. For her painting is a very visceral, physical, and metaphysical process. Rasmussen’s paintings have been called abstract expressionism, with a spiritual twist. Her paintings reflect her holistic worldview and her deep connection with the natural world. For Rasmussen, art making is a transcendental experience. When she paints, Rasmussen taps into a force greater than herself; a force that creates through her. Each painting is a product of her dance with divinity. Through her process she hopes to invoke in herself and the viewer a deeper connection to the world within and around us through reflection and inspiration. Early on Lisa developed a thirst for travel and distant cultures. A key conceptual element of her artistic process is the study and travel to ancient cultures and sacred sites around the world. Some of her travel adventures include Nepal, Greece, Egypt, Peru, Ireland, and Brazil. She has also lived and taught English in the mountains of South, China, as well as she had studied antiquities, the Art of the Renaissance, and Ceramics in Florence, Italy.

Rasmussen is also known as a pioneering and passionate arts educator. For many years, she has taught art to residents of under-served, at-risk communities. In 2006, she created the Transformative Art Program at a mental health institute in Oakland, CA for emotionally traumatized youth, ages 5-14. Her art therapy program to create public youth art installations and gallery exhibits garnered awards, grants and media attention.

Rasmussen worked as a fine arts consultant at the prestigious Merrill Chase Gallery in Chicago and The Weinstein Gallery in San Francisco. She also managed The Red Door Gallery & Collective, a grassroots art-reach gallery in Oakland, CA. Rasmussen earned her BA in Sculpture and Ceramics and her MFA in Arts and Consciousness from John F. Kennedy University in Berkeley, CA. She earned several academic awards, including Graduate Student of the Year, in 2008, and Alumni of the Year, in 2013.
